In a historic move, His Holiness the Je Khenpo, Tulku Jigme Chhoeda, the head of the Drukpa Kagyu order in Bhutan, has bestowed the full bhikshuni ordination to 144 nuns. The Mūlasarvāstivāda vinaya lineage for monks was widespread in Tibet but due to various political and social reasons, the establishment of the nuns’ sangha unfortunately failed to materialize.
