In Luke 10, Jesus send out 70 disciples to proclaim the kingdom of God. But why 70? Why not 50 or 60 or 80? In the Old Testament, the number 70 is typological both of the nations of the world as well as Israel. Jesus, the promised Seed of Abraham, is sending the nucleus of a new Israel into the world to announce that all the promises of God have come in him.
