What are your YNAB categories? - Mr. Money Mustache
Jan 11, 2015 · I'm thinking mine are too complicated right now. When I over-refine, I overwhelm and then don't do it. In an old program I liked having pre-tax accounted for but it feels complex to set up in YNAB, which really I should be using to help us reduce everyday spending, not to forecast what ER would look like, etc.
YNAB -- monthly balance rollover question - Mr. Money Mustache
Feb 16, 2015 · Since I did that, it shows that our total available balance for January is $0.00 for all categories combined, but individual categories still show the leftover amounts, e.g. $121 in daycare, which is rolling into February. I'm posting a screenshot here to see if that helps. Maybe I'm just overthinking.

And I paid off a small credit card.

Nov 19, 2016 · Just make whatever categories that money is assigned to, budget money into those categories and be done with it. Your first month's budget wont really be a monthly budget, but next month will be fine. If you just want to budget your checking account, you can do that - money moved to other accounts would then be expenses in your YNAB budget.

Nov 14, 2017 · I own YNAB 4 and have considered going back to it but currently don't feel like getting it to work on Linux (I've done it before but it's annoying), and I never got the mobile app working properly with YNAB 4. Good Budget is a competitor that's free if 10 categories a month are sufficient for you.
YNAB vs Quicken Delux /questions - Mr. Money Mustache
Jun 2, 2019 · Trying out YNAB and felt like it was not doing a lot, I had had quicken previously and thought it did a lot better job of importing lot of historical data and giving you insight right away. Looked it up and Quicken is currently only 44.99 a year - at 6.99/month YNAB is 83.88.

Dec 30, 2015 · Haven't seen this mentioned. YNAB launched their new product today. Unfortunately they've gone to a subscription-based model, with monthly or annual rates. They say YNAB 4 will be supported for a year, and obviously they can't take it off your computer, so you'll be able to use it as long as you have a compatible system.
Question for YNAB users, considering switch from Quicken.
Nov 4, 2015 · We use YNAB to track checking, savings, and credit card accounts (4 accounts total). Updates are not automatic, but I download and import transactions from the bank very easily, and the only transactions I tend to enter by hand are checks or complicated receipts where I need to split categories before throwing the receipt out.
