The blue skin and blue flesh seem not of this world. It's beautiful in its own way, and the flesh cooks up white and delicious. I can't prove it, but the blue ones seem to taste better than the normal ones.

May 6, 2012 · The source of this pigment (found in a number of other sculpins) is unclear...Also possible is that the color comes from the fish's diet, as some invertebrates store bile pigments from the algae they eat. not sure if this is the same for Lingcod (no info on blue color in entry on lingcod in certainly...) but its interesting nonethless.

Jul 28, 2013 · Identify Greenling vs. undersize Lingcod? Have to admit, jetty fishing, there have been a couple instances where we couldn't tell. Using the pictures in the regs, and reading the description, (and looking online) they are pretty close, especially the female greenling with no blue. I'm pretty sure we threw one huge greenling back last week.

Feb 15, 2022 · Been out a couple times so far this year--both times was the same scenario. Fished several spots on structure and fishing was slow so kept finding new spot to fish. After fishing a few spots we found a bunch of biters---- whole blue lable size herring was the ticket for lings and pink shrimp fly above for blacks.
