The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to allow the deployment of National Guard troops in the Chicago area, escalating President Donald Trump’s conflict with Democratic governors over using the military on U.
On Thursday, a federal judge ruled to temporarily block the deployment of troops to Illinois. The ruling reads that no National Guard members may be deployed to the state for the next 14 days. The restraining order, effective in the ruling, will expire on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The Texas National Guard removed seven soldiers from Illinois amid questions about their physical fitness. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called it a return to “standards.”
The former president noted that Abbott, Ted Cruz and other Republicans had attacked him a decade ago for overseeing routine military exercises in Texas.
