The National Hurricane Center's 5 p.m. Thursday update reported that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 700 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, the system is moving west-northwest at 13 mph.

National Weather Service meteorologists issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the South on Tuesday afternoon.

The Seattle Storm and Indiana Fever kept their seasons alive with Game 2 home wins Tuesday night. The Storm snapped the Las Vegas Aces ' 17-game winning streak with a comeback victory. The seventh-seeded Storm used a strong fourth quarter to force a decisive Game 3, getting a combined 50 points from Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike.

Mario first gained tropical storm strength Friday before it weakened into a tropical depression just hours later.
