January is National Blood Donor Month and just one pint of blood can make a difference or even save someone’s life. Many people donate blood to the American Red Cross, which will help all patients. According to the agency,

January is National Blood Donor Month. It's a time to celebrate those who roll up their sleeves to save lives and to focus on the great need for blood and platelet donations — especially at this time of year.

Red Cross added that in honor of January being National Blood Donor Month, the NFL is partnering with blood donation organizations for the sixth year and inviting fans to join their lifesaving efforts.

Due to the winter months, holidays, travel and an increase in seasonal illness, there is a significant decline in blood donations and the American Red Cross needs our help.

The American Red Cross urges donors to make an appointment to give lifesaving blood in the new year to help keep the blood supply strong this winter. Type O negative blood donors and those giving platelets are especially urged to give now to keep critical blood products on the shelves for patients in need.

Donors have until Jan. 26 to give blood at either the organization's blood drives or blood donation centers in Michigan.
