Australian police have named the suspect in the fatal shooting of two police officers in the Australia Alps as Dezi Freeman. On Wednesday morning, Victoria Police said the 56-year-old is "still at large", almost 24 hours after officers tried to execute a warrant at his rural property and were fired upon.

A manhunt is underway in southern Australia for a heavily armed gunman who police said shot dead two officers and wounded another on Tuesday as they tried to serve a warrant at a rural property in the state of Victoria.

The suspect killed a 59-year-old detective and a 35-year-old senior constable, Victoria’s Chief Commissioner of Police Mike Bush told reporters at a news conference in the nearby city of Wangaratta.
