The retirement of veteran edge rusher and three time Pro Bowler Za’Darius Smith from the NFL earlier this week, after 11 years in the league, has arguably thrown a bit of a spanner in the works to the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive personnel.

On paper, the Eagles arguably have more offensive talent than any team in the NFL — a Super Bowl MVP quarterback in Jalen Hurts, an All-Pro running back in Saquon Barkley, an elite receiver duo in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, a productive tight end in Dallas Goedert and one of the league’s most accomplished offensive lines.

This is the player who holds the key for the Eagles to fix problems at edge rusher and cornerback without making a trade.

Heavy's Beth Mishler-Elmore recently put together a blockbuster trade idea that would send Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo, a 2026 second-round pick, and a conditional 2027 third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
