Cooper’s signing wasn’t the only significant roster move Las Vegas made on Monday. The Raiders announced Monday they waived 14 players and released four others. Former Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith was in that group. Smith signed with the Raiders in the offseason after a tryout at the team’s rookie minicamp.
The Raiders acquired Kenny Pickett in a trade with the Browns this week and that left no room on the 53-man roster for sixth-round pick Cam Miller.

And then on Tuesday, the Raiders officially cut their roster down to 53 players. They also placed safety Lonnie Johnson Jr., who’s recovering from surgery to repair a broken fibula, on injured reserve. Johnson will be eligible to return after the first four games of the season.
