Marcellus Williams, the Missouri death row inmate who has maintained his innocence for nearly 24 years, is scheduled to be executed Tuesday, a day after the governor and the state Supreme Court refused to intervene.

Lawyers for Marcellus Williams, who maintains his innocence, argued Monday the execution should be halted over the exclusion of a potential Black juror.

The execution of Marcellus Williams will proceed today, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled in a decision rejecting efforts to show a potential juror in his murder trial was excluded based on race.
