A group of investors, including a former governor of Tennessee, has made a bid to bring a professional women’s basketball team to the Volunteer State.

Former Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam is looking to start a WNBA franchise in Nashville dedicated to Lady Vols legend Pat Summitt.

Haslam and a group of investors are submitting an expansion bid to bring Nashville a WNBA team, called the Tennessee Summitt.

Nashville's WNBA bid isn't guaranteed to succeed, but it's difficult to see how this effort that checks boxes and tugs at heartstrings could fail.
