Johnson has a 16-7 career mark in the College World Series, including a 5-5 mark in two CWS appearances (2016, 2021) at Arizona and an 11-2 record in two CWS appearances (2023, 2025) at LSU.

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson, who this season directed the Tigers to their second College World Series title in three years, was named the 2025 National Coach of the Year by D1Baseball.com.

Johnson continued by saying, “I was ejected for arguing balls and strikes this year and they don’t like that when you argue balls and strikes. I’m not sure really what happened.

“Chase Shores, I’m so proud of him,” Johnson said. “I mean, he was a weekend starter on the 2023 national championship team as a freshman before he was injured.

This is the second year Johnson has been awarded the coach of the year. He was named coach of the year in 2023 after leading the Tigers to their seventh College World Series win.

Since 2022, Johnson’s first season at LSU, 18 of the Tigers’ 26 draft picks have been pitchers. That includes two of four in 2022, eight of 13 in 2023 and eight of nine in 2024.
