The two rivals were joined on stage by Republican Curtis Sliwa weeks ahead of the multi-way general election to lead the nation's largest city.

The first New York City mayoral general election debate will take place on Thursday evening. It will feature Democratic frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and perennial Republican Curtis Sliwa.

The contest has already upended New York politics and drawn national attention. In a major upset, Mamdani defeated Cuomo in the Democratic primary this summer. Last month, current Mayor Eric Adams ended his re-election bid, narrowing the field to three.
