Last weekend, as Big Bear was expecting its largest storm of the season, residents got some unwelcome news: a public safety power shutoff was being initiated by Southern California Edison.

After assessing the crawl space and size of the bear, wildlife officials said they determined tranquilizing the bear was not an option.
