AUSTIN - The Texas Lottery has added extra security measures to its self-service vending machines. Lottery players will be required to scan their ID at self-service vending machines. It is part of the effort by the Texas Lottery Commission to make sure players are 18 years old or older.

The Texas Lottery Commission has recently introduced a new step for players purchasing games at self-service vending machines.

The age verification technology was installed in all lottery ticket self-service machines across Texas on December 30.

Machines read the barcode located on the back of most state-issued IDs, using the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators age verification system.
