Republican Rock Island Alderman Glen Evans Sr., First Ward, has announced his candidacy for Illinois State Senate District 36 where he will take on incumbent Democrat Mike Halpin.

A Rock Island man awaiting trial on weapons charges was arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting incident in May during which another man was wounded, Rock Island police said.
