Dave Grohl paid tribute to Taylor Hawkins on the 30th anniversary of Foo Fighters' self-titled debut album. The rock group also shared an emotional new single called "Today's Song."

"Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak," Grohl wrote in a letter to fans as the band released 'Today's Song' on Wednesday.

None of which really gets addressed in a new essay Grohl posted online today, alongside the band’s first new song in two years. He does namecheck Freese—specifically, in a rundown of former members, referring to his “thunderous wizardry.
