Section 31 is a strange beast. It should have been a no-brainer and a win: Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh headlining a Star Trek action spinoff. Who doesn't like the sound of that? The signs were not great from the start.

Regardless of how you ultimately feel about the tone Section 31 goes for—which definitely leans hard into trying to be cool and cynically jokey a lot of the time—and perhaps even regardless of how threadbare most of the primary cast is treated by Section 31 ‘s script,

It’s a fun vibe that gives the entire cast a chance to ham things up, but whenever Section 31 slows down to zoom in on Georgiou’s inner turmoil, you can sense how much more substance there could have been to these characters if they were fleshed out over the course of a series.
