A 2.8 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Virginia on Tuesday, around 5:30 p.m. The quake occurred a little over a half mile northeast of Wyndham, at a depth of 0.1 kilometers. Over 1,300 reports were made to the USGS, but no damage was reported.
Another earthquake rattles Central Virginia
Earthquakes are not necessarily a rare event in Central Virginia. In 2011, a powerful 5.8 magnitude quake struck in Louisa County. It was felt as far north as Rhode Island and New York City. While it didn’t cause any deaths or major injuries, it did cause $80 million in damage to homes, schools and public buildings in Louisa.
