By David Shepardson WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice asked the Supreme Court late on Friday to reject President-elect Donald Trump's request to delay implementation of a law that would ban popular social media app TikTok or force its sale by Jan.

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on Friday challenging a law that seeks to ban TikTok in the U.S. on Jan. 19.

TikTok’s future in the United States now sits squarely in the hands of the Supreme Court, which will hear oral arguments Friday. At its core, the case features a head-on collision between national security and the First Amendment.
