The president’s possible legal action comes after he urged Texas Republicans to pursue a similar redistricting strategy to create GOP-friendly congressional maps.

The Texas Senate voted to approve a controversial, mid-decade redistricting bill that redraws the state's congressional map in Republican's favor. The new districts could give the GOP as many as five more seats in Congress after the 2026 midterm elections.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation last week that establishes a special election on a redrawn congressional map that would increase Democratic seats in the U.S. House.
