Idaho’s Republican-dominated state House of Representatives voted 46-24 to pass a resolution to reject same-sex marriage, despite the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark ruling in Obergefell v Hodges.

The Idaho House passed a Republican-backed resolution on Monday urging the Supreme Court to reconsider the legality of same-sex marriage. All of Idaho’s Democratic House members opposed the non-binding resolution,

The memorial would call on the Supreme Court to “restore the natural definition of marriage, a union of one man and one woman."

In 2006, Idaho voters passed an amendment to the state Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, though the Supreme Court’s ruling nearly a decade later found that such laws violate the 14th Amendment’s equal protection and due process guarantees.

A state legislative committee has advanced a resolution asking that the power to regulate marriage be returned to the states.
