Steve Smith has been cleared to rejoin the Australian squad for the Sri Lanka Test series after recovering from an elbow injury. He will start batting practice later this week in preparation for the first Test in Galle.

Steve Smith has suffered an elbow injury but the star batter is still planning to captain Australia in the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old damaged his right elbow while throwing in the field for the Sydney Sixers in their washed-out Big Bash League derby against the Sydney Thunder.

Smith has been appointed as the full-time skipper Pat Cummins is out of the tour due to the birth of his second child and also an ankle injury

Stand-in Test captain Steven Smith has given Australia an injury scare ahead of the series in Sri Lanka after picking up an elbow injury during the BBL. Smith, who has a history of elbow problems, sustained the injury to his right arm while throwing in the field for Sydney Sixers in their washed-out match against Sydney Thunder on Friday.
