Democrats’ diminished pride in being American is more clearly linked to Trump’s time in office. When Trump first entered the White House, in 2017, about two-thirds of Democrats said they were proud to be American. That had fallen to 42% by 2020, just before Trump lost reelection to Democrat Joe Biden.

Fewer Americans feel a sense of national pride this year, according to a new poll released by the Fourth of July.

One of the victims, 16, was in critical condition after being shot in the head. She had shot another girl, 17, in the leg near the storied gay bar. The police said the violence was not connected to Pride.

One teenage victim was shot in the head while another was stable after being shot in the leg. It's unclear whether it was a hate crime-related incident.
