(LOS ANGELES) -- A 4.7 magnitude earthquake centered in Malibu, California, rocked the Los Angeles area Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A 2.8 magnitude aftershock was registered in Malibu two minutes after the initial quake.

It happened about three miles northeast of Malibu at around 2:15 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey​.

Saturday's event was the sixth earthquake of magnitude 3 or higher since a magnitude 4.7 earthquake in the same area was widely felt across Southern California on Sept. 12.
