The Red Wings’ struggles in the Lone Star State continued Sunday with a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. The Red Wings (21-21-4) have dropped back-to-back games for the first time since Todd McLellan took over as coach on Dec. 26, scoring just one goal in each game.

On Sunday evening in Dallas, the Red Wings were looking for a bounce-back after a humbling defeat the night prior in Tampa Bay. Instead, Detroit found itself staring down the barrel of a 3–0 deficit after the first period on the way to a 4–1 loss at the hands of the host Stars.

The Detroit Red Wings used a seven-game winning streak to climb back into the playoff race. But they won’t be able to stay in the chase if they can’t avoid the bad stretches like the one they are in now.

On Saturday, in the second game of its current four-game road trip, Detroit fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-1. The Red Wings struggled to capitalize on their chances against the Lightning, tallying a season-high 40 shots on net and going 1-for-6 on the power play.

Interestingly, coach Todd McLellan isn't as concerned about the offense. There was a bright spot in that regard in Sunday's 4-1 loss in Dallas. But it's on the defensive end that, possibly, bad habits from early in the season are beginning to resurface.
