The Pirates routed the Cardinals, 8-3, after leading 5-0 in the first inning. Pittsburgh is now 6-5 versus St. Louis this season and an impressive 5-1 over the last six games. The Cardinals on the other hand are 4-9 over the past 13 games and continue to struggle as they dropped below .500 last week.

Carmen Mlodzinski is making just his second start since May. Although he pitched well on August 17 against the Cubs, where he allowed just one hit and one run over four innings, he’s been getting crushed by teams when he gets into the order a second time.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals play the third game of a 4-game series Wednesday at Busch Stadium.
