Several roads have been closed and events cancelled after flooding caused by sustained heavy rain. Northamptonshire Police said it had received reports that Bedford Road, St James Road and South Street - all in Northampton - had been affected by surface water flooding. There is also flooding in the Far Cotton area of the town.

One person is dead and seven others are missing in Noto Peninsula, state media reported. The region is still recovering from a catastrophic earthquake earlier this year.

The blame for 'recurring floods of a lifetime' can be placed on rising temperatures because of climate change.
