City Union Mission announced on Tuesday, July 29, that it has expanded its summer outreach efforts to help keep those experiencing homelessness safe from dangerous heat.

They were able to keep the fire from spreading to a City Union Mission building next door. City Union Mission said their building located next to the fire is a warehouse, not a shelter.

Kansas City firefighters fought a blaze in a vacant 8th Street building next to a City Union Mission warehouse Tuesday evening.

The donation goes towards Union Mission's 8,200-square-foot expansion space that will offer 200 additional day center spots and social services.
