Firefighters in Turkey continue to battle wildfires in the Aegean coastal province of İzmir while authorities in neighboring Greece have brought similar fires under control

Blazes are burning in countries including Spain, Greece and Turkey in the wake of record-setting temperatures across much of the continent.

A wildfire killed a second person in Turkey’s western Izmir province on Tuesday as blazes raged for a seventh day across several regions, while a little-known group claiming ties to Kurdish militants said it was behind dozens of arson attacks.

Turkey is battling deadly wildfires across multiple provinces, with two fatalities confirmed and over 200 homes destroyed. The blazes, burning for seven straight days, have taken a sinister turn after a group calling itself “Children of Fire” claimed responsibility for coordinated arson attacks in six cities.
