Tropical Storm Jerry formed Tuesday over tropical waters in the central Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center said. It is the 10th named storm of the 2025 hurricane season.
Tropical Storm Jerry is likely to dissipate after dumping rain on the Caribbean’s Leeward Islands, while forecasters monitor a new disturbance emerging off the coast of Africa.
Midtown Beach closes due to rough surf and erosion from Tropical Storm Jerry and a coastal low-pressure system.
"The environmental conditions appear favorable for the system to strengthen during the next couple of days with the upper-level winds appearing light, waters quite warm, and abundant surrounding moisture," noted the NHC's first advisory for Jerry posted Tuesday morning.
The worst conditions will spread north this weekend. Forecasters warned people on the shores of Delaware and New Jersey to prepare for major coastal flooding.
