An explosion and raging fire at a plant in Tangipahoa Parish known to store highly flammable products prompted an evacuation order within a one-mile radius on Friday, affecting an elementary school and former Gov. John Bel Edwards, while firefighters battled the towering blaze.

The Tangipahoa Parish government ordered a mandatory evacuation for those within a 1-mile radius of Highways 51 and 10 in Roseland.

The one-mile evacuation zone around a Tangipahoa Parish plant rocked by an explosion and raging fire last week was reduced to a number of roads near the site on Monday, officials said.
