Parts of the state are forecast to experience moderate to major coastal flooding, inland flash flooding, winds up to 60 mph (97 kph), up to 5 inches (about 13 centimeters) of rain and high surf, potentially causing beach erosion. Some volunteers were putting sandbags at beaches.

A nor’easter that brought heavy rains and gusty winds to the Tri-State area over the weekend continued to soak communities across the region Monday.

A major nor’easter struck the Northeast U.S., resulting in strong winds, heavy rain, and shoreline flooding from New York to New England. New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County announced states of emergency as authorities prepared for possible flooding and power outages.
