White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery had a memorable big league debut after being called up from Triple-A Charlotte.

Adrian Houser tossed a season-high eight innings, Edgar Quero hit his first major league home run, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 in Denver on Friday night.

Edgar Quero picked up a four-pitch walk to load the bases, and with two outs, Taylor knocked two in with a single, putting the Sox up, 2-0. In the fifth the Rockies finally made some noise, courtesy of a terrible throw from third baseman Josh Rojas.

The Rockies entered the Fourth of July weekend series against the White Sox at Coors Field with a 20-67 record, on pace to lose 125 games. Last season, the White Sox lost 121 games, setting baseball’s modern-era record for ineptitude, surpassing the 1962 Mets, led by “Marvelous Marv” Throneberry and Choo Choo Coleman, who lost 120 games.
