Paused NYC Transit Projects Advance With Congestion Pricing Program Launch
After Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) ordered an indefinite pause of congestion pricing last June, MTA officials paused some plans, including halting work on the $7.7-billion Second Avenue Subway Phase 2. The project, which is the costliest project being funded in part through the toll program, is planned to extend the line 1.8 miles and add three stations.

The scheme is modelled partly on that of London, where since 2003 a daily charge (currently £15, or $19) has reduced the number of cars, improved air quality and funded transit upgrades. New York’s version costs $9 for most drivers (with different rates for lorries and low-income New Yorkers).
