More than 1 million people will pack both sides of the East River for New York City's Fourth of July fireworks Friday night. CBS News New York's Alecia Reid, Hannah Kliger and Scott Padgett report.

From small towns to big cities, Fourth of July celebrations, including parades and fireworks, will be held across the U.S. on Friday. One of the largest annual gatherings is the Macy's fireworks event in New York City.

On Friday, the country will celebrate Independence Day with dozens of parades, parties and, of course, fireworks. Thousands are expected to gather for the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show, but if you’re looking for something closer to home,

The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and bond markets will close early the day before Independence Day (Thursday, July 3, 2025), ending for the day at 1 p.m., and will be closed on the Fourth of July.

As with every federal holiday, there is always some confusion about what will be closed and what will remain open. People who work in an office generally have the Fourth of July off to spend with their families.
