Freezing rain has made for a messy morning commute and prompted dozens of school districts to close for the day. But the rain is expected to lighten as the day progresses, meteorologists with the National Weather Service said Thursday.

It’s a slick start across Southeast Michigan, with freezing rain mixing in with a bit of snow, though both are now fading.

Weather Advisory in effect across Metro Detroit with icy streets and sidewalks across the area. Temps will eventually climb above 32° this afternoon before the winds pick up.

School closings are already rolling in as a freezing weather system moves through the area, leaving slick conditions on the roads.
