Spain's Christmas lottery showered 2.77 billion euros in prizes on Monday, with a significant number of winners of the top award, "El Gordo", living in Leon province that was ravaged by wildfires earlier this year.

With a $1.7B Powerball jackpot up for grabs Dec. 24, people across the country are looking for ways to better their odds this holiday season.

The town of La Bañeza, which has a population of around 11,000, was badly affected by wildfires in the summer.
