9 suspects in custody for Leland mass shooting
Authorities held a joint news conference on October 16, 2025, to address the mass shooting that occurred in Leland, Mississippi, which killed six people. The FBI announced that a total of nine suspects were in custody.
The Washington County Coroner’s Office later confirmed, in total, 16 people were shot - a dozen of who were taken to hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries.
Six people have died as a result of the Leland shooting, which broke out at a block party on North Main Street after the homecoming football game and drew hundreds of people to the downtown area. Washington County Coroner Methel Johnson confirmed the death toll had risen after two victims who were hospitalized succumbed to their injuries.
