The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management pointed to an update on its Empire Wind website saying its order to halt all work on the $7 billion project has been lifted "during the ongoing review" of the project's potential environmental impacts.

The Trump administration had issued a highly unusual stop-work order on the Empire Wind project last month, leading to intense pushback from officials in New York.

While politicians, environmental groups and union leaders rejoiced that Empire Wind can move forward, some worry the Trump administration’s concession is meant to pressure Gov. Hochul to approve local gas pipeline projects.
