Canada and India have agreed to a series of steps to strengthen bilateral ties, two years after their diplomatic rupture over the killing of a Canadian Sikh leader.

Canada's minister of foreign affairs announced a joint statement on trade and tech cooperation between Canada and India after two years of chilled relations.

Canada is pushing to strengthen ties with China and India, even as it remains in precarious trade talks with a US administration that has escalated its tariff war with Beijing.

India and Canada agreed on Monday on a new roadmap for their relations after talks between their foreign ministers in New Delhi, as both countries seek to mend ties strained over the killing of a Canadian Sikh separatist.

Canadian FM Anita Anand emphasised that she appreciates the security dialogue India and Canada have had so far and that a comprehensive joint statement will address and range of issues to further bilateral ties.

India and Canada are witnessing a new phase in their relationship after months of diplomatic tension. Following a period marked by mutual accusations and visa restrictions, both sides are now focusing on renewal and cooperation.

NEW DELHI- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand held discussions in New Delhi on October 13 to “restore and reinvigorate” the mechanisms necessary to advance bilateral partnership. The two leaders agreed on an ambitious cooperation roadmap for India-Canada ties.

Canada's FM, who is in Delhi, said that having a stable relationship with a major global economic player is very crucial in this geopolitical environment.
