Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves will attempt to make his NASCAR debut in next month’s Daytona 500 with Trackhouse Racing.

Four-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves has announced he will attempt to run the Daytona 500 with Trackhouse Racing, making his NASCAR Cup Series debut.

Castroneves will try to qualify for the race as part of Trackhouse Racing's Project 91, the same part-time program that got Shane van Gisbergen his first NASCAR win.

Castroneves is not assured a starting spot in the 40-car Daytona 500 lineup, of which 36 spots are already secured by full-time chartered teams. To secure a spot, he’ll need to either post a fast time in qualifying to secure one of the four open spots or claim a transfer position in his qualifying race.

The four-time Indianapolis 500 winner will be part of Trackhouse Racing's Project 91 effort at NASCAR's biggest race.

Castroneves, a 49-year-old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a veteran of 315 IndyCar starts. He is a 25-time winner in the series, including his four aforementioned wins in the Indianapolis 500. His most recent victory came in the 2021 Indianapolis 500.
