President Cyril Ramaphosa has sparked controversy after criticising a group of white South Africans who relocated to the US as cowards, drawing sharp condemnation from lobby group AfriForum.
The Episcopal Church says it will not assist with the resettlement of white South Africans and will end its government partnership to support refugees. The church's presiding bishop, Sean Rowe, explains why.
Afrikaner lobby group AfriForum has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa for insulting Afrikaner refugees by calling them “cowards”, emphasising that Ramaphosa should take responsibility for his “own complicity in the exodus and planned emigration of Afrikaners to the US and the rest of the world”.
The white South Africans were granted refugee status by the Trump administration, despite no evidence they face more danger than Black South Africans.
The refugees were admitted to the U.S. after an executive order from President Trump, and under an expedited and unconventional process for the U.S. refugee resettlement program.
